My first plan of action is to find the perfect Tuxedo for the formal affairs I plan to attend. Even Pres. Elect Obama hasn't made a final decision on his Tux for Jan 20 (he has chosen his outfit for the Swear-In Ceremony). I don't have as much money and accolade as the President, and there aren't designers knocking down my doors trying to design for me, so I have to evaluate ready-to-wear designs, or get my tailor to create my tuxedo. Since my favorite tailor lives in Hong Kong and only comes to the US every 6 months, I would be in a time crunch to attempt to get a made-to-measure tuxedo within 3 weeks.
Believe it or not, this will be the first tuxedo that I own! I have normally been the rental type of guy, and that's because I have never really had to go to a formal function, unless it was Prom or a wedding. The few times I have gone to formal events, the tuxedo was provided and I wouldn't turn that down. Because this is my first one, I want to start with a tuxedo that can be worn in all occasions.
Here are my choices:
Coat: I think that I will go for a standard tuxedo jacket with a notch lapel and no more than two buttons. I really like the look of the double breasted tux, but that wouldn't be as versatile as the single breasted coat. I definitely must have a center vent, as jackets with no vents are not in style at the moment. Side vents are good for suits, but the center vent has a more formal look, keeping it a bit more timeless.
Pant: I have to decide whether I want a plain or pleated front tuxedo pant. Plain is more modern, but I don't really want my tuxedo to be "sporty" so I will likely choose the pleated front. No cuffs in the bottom.. I prefer a plain hem at the bottom to give the pants a more modern look.
Shirt/Shoes/Tie will be decided upon later on... Pulling together these three things are always easy for me. Essentially anything looks good when the pants and jacket have the perfect fit.
Wish me luck! I'll keep you posted..
