After watching the famour Speech by MLK on CNN at noon, I went with my family to my uncle's new office over inthe Rayburn Bulding. Let me interject here by saying that the Capitol South metro stop was SUPER congested and it took about 20 minutes to get out of the metro stop! Then we were bombarded with marketeers (hustlers) who were selling anythign Obama for $1, $5, or 3 for $10.. Let me further interject to talk about the enourmous congestion at the Franconia stop... and these folks were in line buying metro passes! It spanned all along the sky walk (you have to know the area to understand)
Ok back to my uncle's office... What a view! His office window faces the Capitol! Not enough couverage to see the front of the Capitol where the action will take place, but for those that would rather keep warm, at least you could still be in the atmosphere, but in a much warmer place. After leaving his office, my sister and I decided to walk through the National Mall and the area that the Swearing-in ceremony would take place. Since I have a press pass for the National Mall area, I wanted to scope out the place to see where my best photo ops would be. I also wanted to take advantage of getting some good Capitol Bulding shots before the mass of people come tomorrow. Here are a couple of the shots that I took of the Eve of the Inauguration..
Later in the evening, I had the opportunity to attend the Virginia Inaugural Ball at the Westin Arlington Gateway. As soon as I got there, the speech portion of the program begin and Senator Jim Webb, Senator Mark Warner, Congressman Robert Scott, Emmet Smith, and Governor Tim Kaine (also the new DNC Chair) addressed the crowd. The display of food looked awesome (sorry, didn't taste it, but it had a nice presentation) and the crowd seemed to enjoy the band (I really didn't know many of the songs, except for the song that was played at the last 2 minutes of the Sopranos finale episode... makes me mad just thinking about it).
