President Bush Feels Misunderestimated...Final News Conference

Misunderestimated me???

Today, President Bush held his 47th and final news conference of his 8 year Presidency. This news conference was more of a reflective survey of his past 8 years in office rather than an address of current events and issues with the Nation. A few things that he did talk about was the current economy, and the sustainable cease fire that he is in favor of with the Hammas and Israel. He also reflected over his mistakes in office, which seemed to be much less than what many Americans claim to believe. Bush regrets pushing social security reform over immigration reform, and one of his most open regrets is putting the "Mission Accomplished" banner on the aircraft carrier.

He took the time to thank the press and tried to give them his feelings over the past 8 years dealing with them. he described how they have been there through the best and worst of times, and that he believes there were times when they misunderestimated him.... I'm trying to find out if that is indeed a word.... I feel like Underestimate is enough.. or Misunderstood.. but to Misunderestimate means that they did NOT underestimate which leads to the press always predicting your moves and being accurate in their stories, no matter how objective or subjective they may have been. I don't think Bush meant that... even if he did, Misunderestimate is not a word, so this is a moot point... the main point is that Change is coming in 8 days!!

When asked about his harsh critics, he brushed his shoulders off (figuratively), feeling as if he did what was necessary to protect the country. Bush views those who get angry and yell, and say bad things and a form of undignified expression. He believe that he faced hard decisions and had to face them even if there would be discourse and disagreement with those decisions. He says that he doesn't spend a lot of time listening to those who come against him. "I don't see how you can live with yourself if you don't stand for what you believe in"

He doesn't agree that people view the US in a negative light. He said that he wasn't worried about popularity, but thought that protection of the homeland is most important. He thinks that the countries ultimately view the US as a strong country of freedom.

One of my favorite parts of the press conference was his reaction to the question of whether he would have to face his regrets after he leaves the office. "Self pity is pathetic" - and he believes that Obama will not engage in self pity.

I also caught a glimpse of Bush's personal side when he addressed the historic Presidency that is about to unfold "I never thought I would live to see the day that a Black Person would become the President.... and I am glad to have a front row seat. " I think that most people feel this way, and no matter if you are an Obama supporter or not, you WILL be sitting in front of the TV on Tuesday Jan 20, 2009.

Funny Statement of the Day - "I don't think I could lay out on the beach with a straw hat and Hawaiian shirt.. especially since I have stopped drinking. "

Obama as an Uniter and not a divider - he hopes the tone can be different for Obama than it was for Bush. he was disappointed with the tone in Washington during his terms. He was disappointed in the name calling that occurred through the parties in Washington. Hopes they treat Obama with respect and that he deserves the respect

I'm sure someone out there wants to challenge me in saying that misunderestimate could be a conjunction of mis-underestimate.. but give it a rest
