Progression is Serious: Going Backwards Can be Fashion Forward

Today when I got to work, I was so excited about my new blog that I emailed my BFF Brandis to tell her I finally created a site (I had been threatening to do this for the past 6 years). She told me she left a comment on my site, and when I saw it I laughed, but threatened to remove the comment. I wasn't serious about removing it, but she and I have the most serious convos when we are both not really being serious. So anyways, her comment said that the shoes I want are a step up from when I used to rock Durangos (I just threw up a bit... in my mouth). LOL, OK so yeah I had a pair back in January 2000 when they were hot, but they never made the trip to UVA in August 2000 (been fashion forward since Mommy put on my first onesie). Anyways, in response to my semi-offended reaction to her comment, Brandis said "Progression is serious" and she pasted the definition of progression to be "the act of progressing; forward or onward movement." After she said it, I realized she had a point.

It leads me to this... What would fashion be without progression? More importantly, where would fashion be if it didn't progress by turning back to previous trends? Let's take Skinny Jeans for instance. Last year, many of us would consider skinny jeans to be feminine, but now, especially due to the current skateboard trend, skinny jeans are the fit of choice (Not for me though, I still can't get with the skinny jean). Its nothing new, because back in the 80's the stars of hip hop and rock were all about the skinny jean. Also, I would have laughed at anyone wearing stone or acid washed jeans 3 months ago, but now I am dying for a pair! Boat shoes were once identified with old Executives and "Carlton Banks Wannabes" but now boat shoes are a part of Urban style (Warning, you need to get a pair for this summer, but they may not be in style next summer... Also, I saw too many guys wearing boat shoes in the Fall/Winter, and thats not a good look.. should have been a Q-Tip)

So in conclusion, who knows... As much as fashion Progresses by going backwards, Durangos may reappear to be a stylish shoe... If it does, it may just have to be one trend that I watch come and go (Just like those Von Dutch hats... so glad I didn't waste $70 on one)
