Olympic Fashion: Opening Ceremony

08-08-08 was by far the most spectacular opening ceremony ever for the Olympic Games. Beijing spent over $40 Billion on prepping the city for such an event, and it was truly evident. After the impressive performance of the Welcome Ceremony with the ancient drums, and the art performance that fused dance with painting, they began the parade of Nations. I was indeed impressed with the uniforms I saw at this opening ceremony. Many countries opted out from wearing athletic attire and went with a more tailored look. The US was dressed in Ralph Lauren, but they weren't the only ones in Blazers and trousers. I respect the cultures of all the countries, so I didn't have a "worst dressed" but I do have my favorites. I couldn't find pictures of Cameroon and Nigeria, but they were among my favorites. They wore traditional garments, and it was colorful and brilliant!

Unites States- This is a no brainer, but they were very chic and sophisticated in their blazers and white trousers. The ascots on the ladies are a nice touch as well. I also liked the fact that they wore the same shoes, which alot of other countries didn't think about.

Netherlands - The orange pops on the grey suits. The white detail on the lapel adds an extra accent to the uniforms as well.

England - You really can't go wrong with Navy and white, but the white jackets are so sick. I want that white jacket

And my top outfit for the Olympic Games goes to...

Germany - WOW!! Take your eyes of the ridiculous head piece that the water polo team is wearing... Look at the jacket... check out that pinstriped shirt.. the grey striped belt...the white trousers.. and more importantly.. the Black Drivers! Those loafers are so ridiculous.. I don't know anyone with style that would not love to wear this outfit. In fact, they make me rethink my rule about black shoes and white pants... yep, I am forced to say that if you wear it like this, you can wear black loafers with white pants.

  1. Good choices. I missed Cameroon and Nigeria. I love the orange and gray combo.
