The Conde Nast 5th Annual Fashion Rocks, premiered on CBS last night, and was 500 times better than the VMA's. With performances by Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Black Eyed Peas, amongst others, the show was based on paying tribute to the musical talent of previous eras.
Rihanna opened the show in killer style with her own rendition of Madonna's "Vogue", and Justin Timberlake came out and performed Marvin Gaye's classic hit like no other!
I had seen these picks (thanks Zimbio) before the taping premiered, and I was wondering that Beyonce had on that silly wig, but then I realize that she is paying tribute to Etta James, in which Mrs. Carter is portraying in her latest film.
Here are some Red Carpet Hits and Misses from the night... Warning, there are alot of misses, so be prepared to scroll down for a while.
Hits:
Rihanna - She is back on my official list of best dressed. This dress is so relevant and modern.
Charlize Therron - One of the only chicks that can strut a red carpet in pants and still look elegant. I totally dig her style... just sick...
Beyonce - Fits her perfectly, and she is at her original complexion (unlike her pics from Loreal). The detailing and construction of the top complements Beyonce's shape. Where's that $5million ring??
Misses:
Lil Mama - WOW! Top hat? A jacket in which you cut holes and put your arms somewhere besides the sleeves? That awful belt with matching awful shoes? She is back on Avenue Swank, again as the mess of the night...but wait.. here comes her arch rival for the title of Mess..
Solange - Seriously... did you have to go to the peacock exhibit and the Bronx Zoo and attack them for their feathers? Please find the happy medium between being different and being stylish... You are far left with different.. but nothing about this screams style... and then you had another mishap on stage with this whack frayed number
If it were one length, it wouldn't have been as bad.. and since we can see the laziness of the make of the dress by the lining inside.. But, in all fairness, her CD is kinda hot, so check it out if you haven't heard it already.
Justin Timberlake - Another cocktail jacket in a different color.. The same one worn on the cover of Fashion Rocks Magazine. And the short tie? Hate it!! That needs to become a QTip.. Guys please don't do the short tie anymore!
Chris Brown - Please contact me to be your stylist... The pants and shoes are cool, I am very happy that you wore some dress shoes with slacks.. but that top? Are you a performer or a Knight? I really like those slacks though... perfect for the Fall.
And your performance was good, but I wasn't feeling the outfit... The pants had pleats and were too baggy.. And you are making a big fashion mistake.. and short bandanna matched with a V neck.. See, the Bandanna points down like a V, so when matched with a V-Neck, there is an implied viewpoint that the bandanna should match with the V in the shirt.. Its a big mistake when you see skin in between.. Does that make sense? In other words, its whack and it shouldn't be done!
Hillary Swank - I wish I didn't have to put you in the "Miss" category, especially since you are a namesake of the best blog on Earth, but you missed the boat with this outfit. The hair isn't working either.. maybe if it were your natural hair color.. and you seem a bit to slim to wear those shoes.
Vivica A Fox - You have the nerve to host a show for wannabe celebrity stylists.. and you come to Fashion Rocks like this? It's not the worst outfit (who can top Lil'Mama and Solange?) but your hair looks horrible. Both of you are on Glam God, but neither of you dressed like you deserved it.
