More Thoughts on Sarah Palin's Shopping Spree

I posted the article about Sarah Palin after I got news of it Tuesday night, but I have some new feelings about her shopping spree that I would like to share.

I was watching CNN last night, and Campbell Brown expressed how there is a double standard in this issue, because women are much more likely to be judged based on their appearance than men are. Very true. Especially since no one seemed to talk about McCain's $500 Ferragamos and Obama's $1500 suits. I also agree that the a popular opinion of Palin is that she is a very hot woman that isn't for for VP and therefore she does have to be conscious of her image. But does this really mean that the RNC has to use $150K to buy her this new image? I heard last night that the RNC stated that her suits will be donated to charity. Duh! I mean who doesn't give their old/worn clothes to the salvation army? And who will actually spend more than face value for suits worn by her in an auction? Surely not Joe the Plumber's wife, Jan the Dental Hygienist...

To me, its not the fact that she spent $150K on clothes.. give me $150K and two days and Its on! And, I agree that she needs a stylist, in fact, I would love to get $5000 from her own pocket to be her stylist (though I would prefer getting close to the Obamas). But I am disturbed that the RNC felt the need to spend this much on clothes and a stylist for her. If it was her own money, then I would have nothing to say about it. This goes to my theory that the McCain campaign is using Palin as their eye candy and needs to make sure she looks the part to get the votes of who they consider to be shallow undecided voters in rural areas that aren't deep enough to see beyond her good looks. Believe it or not, I sympathize for Palin because I feel that she is being used by the Republican, and I honestly feel that she doesn't realize it.

Even though Michelle Obama is not on the election ticket, I will say that even though she isn't spending $150K at H&M and target on her outfits, she is spending HER money. Yes, Obama has $1500 suits, but he is spending his own money. Not to mention, he has always purchased these suits, and he buys 5 and wears them until they fall apart, which isn't too often since its a $1500 suit. Cindy McCain spends crazy money on her clothes too, but she is Rich and she gladly uses her own money (and tax breaks for the rich) to buy her Oscar De La Renta and extensions. John McCain wears Ferragamo shoes for $500, but who doesn't?

The biggest issue I have with Sarah Palin after finding out how much she spends on clothes, is her condescending attitude to those whom she thinks are over privileged. She claims that she represents the normal "Pro-American" small town citizens, but not too many of them have even stepped foot into a Neiman Marcus, nor have many of them had the opportunity to purchase a $150K House! When asked about her lack of foreign travel experience, she publicly insults those who "received passports for a graduation gift" or those who don't have to work for what they have. Just thinking about her comments make me want to throw up! If you are trying so hard to rep these stereotypes of middle class Americans, then why don't you go all the way and wear Sag Harbor and George (Wal Mart) and Dillard's like "regular folk" wear. Sure, I do alot for the community, and I shop so much that I can speak Italian (Kanye), but its all in how you represent yourself. There is nothing wrong with luxury, but its hypocritical to insult those of us who have had opportunities and yet you are GIVEN $150K to buy clothes!

And again, as I said before, if you spend tons of money on clothes, make sure that they look good! Have the name on you is one thing, but having the name look good on you is another (Q D Washington).

This should spark some comments.. feel free to express how you feel!
