HBO Special - House of Saddam: Iraqi Sopranos?

I watched the HBO original House of Saddam last night, and though I knew the reign of Saddam Hussein was corrupt, it was very interesting to see it with creative license attached..

While watching the show, I couldn't help but see the similarity of Hussein's era to that of any Mafia movie/series you can imagine. The parties, girls dancing in clubs, sons fighting for their father's love, the mistress, wrongful deaths, conspiracy, etc. Even the theme music had a mafia tone to it. Violins with a rise and fall crescendo.. you know what I mean.

All in all, I thought the movie was done really well, but I am not sure if I feel entertained moreso than educated. I need to read more about the history of Saddam in order to give an opinion on whether the director gave an accurate account of the intent and psychological aspect of Hussein.

If you missed it, you can check it On Demand, and Parts 3 and 4 will premier on December 14 on HBO. Click here for more information
