Now that the weather has officially changed, its time to move our wardrobe into winter wonderland! Today, I am leaving you with a few tips on how to pick, wear, and keep your sweaters for the Winter months:
1. Fit - The days of oversized sweaters are over! The bottom of your sweater should hit below the belt, and the sleeves should sit at the wrist. You may have to try the sweater on, because there are certain fits of sweaters, especially cable knits, that the sleeves are a bit longer than preferred and may cause you to have to go one size down from your normal fit.
2. The Layered Look - The layered sweater is a classic look for any fall/winter wardrobe. The key to wearing this correctly is to match your collared shirt with a V Neck Sweater. Crew neck sweaters should NOT be matched with a dress shirt and tie. It looks as if you are being strangled by wool.
3. Storage - When you buy wool sweaters, you have to make sure you store it correctly so that you can get more than one season out of it. If you have a sweater chest, good for you! These are good because the drawers are made of cedar wood which is a a natural preserver of your clothes. Moth balls smell horrible so I don't recommend that either. So, of you don't have any cedar drawers, then put a bag full of cedar chips into your dresser and place your sweaters in there.
4. Keep it simple. No writing or crazy designs. Simple stripes and solids are in for this season.
5. Know when to let go! This goes for any type of clothing, but especially for sweaters! Sweaters stretch and lose its shape, shrink, and get lint balls on them. If any of these happen, please stop wearing the sweater unless its to rake leaves or go get firewood
