Obama as a Food Critic

I just love how all of these forms of media dealing with Obama have suddenly been "found" after his election... First the photos from his college years, and now a lost episode of a local Chicago food show. Gives me something to talk about!

State Senator Barack Obama was a panelist and guest critic for Chicago's "Check Please!" that airs on local WWT back in 2001. Since its recording in 2001, the "lost" episode was never actually aired, but now the show plans to air "Check Please" four times between now and the Jan 20 Inauguration. On the show, President Elect Obama critiqued a local Hyde Park restaurant called Dixie Kitchen which is still around to this day. He raved of their peach cobbler and johnny cakes, but with a name like "Dixie Kitchen", I wonder if the owner voted for Obama? Perhaps that was too much of a stereotype... Either way, he needs to thank Obama and WWT for "finding" this "lost" tape because Dixie Kitchen be super popular from now on. I'll have to check it out on my next adventure to Chicago... if you ask me, the cobbler looked too light, and did not appear to be as flaky and golden as a cobbler should be...

Obama's style, political savvy, AND food critiquing skills make him a supreme candidate for being on Avenue Swank's staff! Let me know if you need a breather from changing the world.. I have a spot just for you! I may have to help you on judging food by its taste AND presentation, because that cobbler certainly did not LOOK good.
