20 Designers Re-Create Dorothy's Ruby Slippers

There's No Place Like Home! (If that home is on the Ave.)

The New York Times writes that in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the classic movie The Wizard of Oz, 20 designers will create their own design of ruby slippers. These shoes will be up for auction to support the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. The list of designers include Betsy Johnson, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Oscar de la Renta. Pictured above are sketches from Betsy Johnson (top) and Jimmy Choo (bottom). Red Swarovsky crystals are the obvious choice for the Ruby recreations, but designers have also planned to use other textures, such as red snakeskin, red crocodile, and even red lace. Get your money ready if you want a pair, these will be extremely limited, and you can expect to spend tons of $$$ in the auctions.
