After Obama's address to Congress, the Republican Response was soon to follow behind, as the Governor of Louisiana addressed the nation from his mansion. Nothing against Bobby Jindal, but this again brings more skepticism about the Republican Party and their motives behind their strategy. Of all the states, and Governors and republican speakers, why Gov Jindal? Is it because he is Indian, and an immigrant, which he reminded us of his parents and Obama's father's similarities in coming to America? This here is another tactic, following Palin, and Michael Steele, that coincidentally falls in the shadow's of Obama's minority status. Seriously, does the GOP really believe that Obaama got where he is because of his race? Do they think that America will come back to Republican favor just because of this flood of "diversity" which has only been three people...
Furthermore, Let's agree that Jindal is a rising star.. to be Governor of a state that has indeed seen its worst days post Katrina, and at the age of 37, is commendable, but one has to think that this is another one of the Republican tactics to ride the wave of ObamaNation. It then becomes natural for one to compare Jindal with Obama - more than the fact that they come from immigrants - but of their political stature and character. At this point, I see no competition, but if Jindal is whom they believe will be Obama's competition in 2012, they better work hard to make sure it doesn't backfire like their Palin Plan.
Furthermore, what was the true basis of this response? Jindal spent the first half of his time talking about how his parents came to India, and reflecting on his childhood. I have seen some Facebook statuses comparing Jindal's speech to something they would see on Mr. Rogers neighborhood, and even Kenny from "30 Rock" (that had to be the funniest comparison EVER, and I could see it too).. no matter what he sounded like, I heard nothing of true substance during his 20 minutes of air time. Aside from commending Obama and America for changing the political demographic as Head of State, I didn't get much "Response" out of this Republican Response..
