Vanity Fair's Cover: Missing a Precious Moment

Look at this cover of Vanity Fair's hottest Young hollywood and what is missing? Perhaps the Oscar nominated star of "Precious" Gabourey Sidibe. Many of the actresses on the cover aren't even recognizable, yet because they fit the modelesque idea of "young hollywood," they get the "privilege" of being on the cover. If not Gabby, why not Freida Pinto ("Slumdog Millionaire)? Zoe Saldana ("Avatar")? Granted, Zoe has been in film for a while, but since Vanity Fair chose both Kristen Stewart and Amanda Seyfried who were already on the 2008 Cover for New Hollywood, clearly they could have made an exception.

So what does this cover tell you about Vanity Fair? Writer Eugenia Peretz spoke on how the beautiful actresses have "ivory soap girl features." So, is this what new hollywood is supposed to be? I doubt it, since the newest face of Hollywood is big, black, and being nominated for Oscars!

  3. Sorry, Gabourey absolutely should not be on the cover. She doesn't represent the 'future' of Hollywood, as she has an extremely limited appeal. She couldn't hold the leading role in several blockbuster flicks. Imagine her in the next James Bond flick trying to squeeze in the mini-cooper. Or getting winded quickly while running away from a killer in a horror flick. iJustCant. Furthermore, while some actresses show the extreme unhealthy side of being thin, she shows the extreme unhealthy side of being overweight. There absolutely needs to be a more diverse display of actresses, but I'm not quite sure Gabourey has the optimal Hollywood look. I'm all in for Zoe - she's fabulous.

  4. Hollywood should not, and, in my opinion, does not define beauty. Freida Pinto for example, is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.I never liked vanity fair and now I have good reason to.
